The Vardzia monastery, built between 1184 and 1186, is a unique example of Georgian cave architecture. It is an outstanding monument of the Georgian Renaissance, nourished by the humanist ideas of the time. The architecture and wall paintings from an indivisible whole, on which rests the unity of the entire complex. A creation of inspired artists, Vardzia deserves a place of honor not only among the treasures of Georgian art, but also among the masterpieces of world culture
