Shravanabelagola occupies the top place among the holiest shrines of Jains. The final sruta of Mahavira Tirthankara’s 8th succession was that only Acharya Bhadrabahu Muni Maharaja and Maurya Emperor Chandragupta Prabha Chandra Munis along with 12 thousand sages came to Sravanabelagola from Ujjain to Kalavappa i.e. today’s Sravanabelagola in the third century BC i.e. about 2300 years ago.
