Five friends head out for a picnic. One buys the meat and veggies, another grabs water and juice, a third drives everyone in their own car, and the fourth pays for parking. Someone doesn't eat meat. By evening everyone has their own receipts and nobody's sure who owes who. Doing the math feels awkward, and nobody wants to argue.
