Your build is your shield.

Glass orbs hang behind your ship, and they are your shield. Enemy shots hit the orbs instead of you. Each block cracks an orb, and three cracks switch that orb's skill off for 8 seconds. The orbs follow the path your ship has flown like a snake's tail. When an upgrade fails, the orb shatters and a burst of glass shards flies upward through enemies.
